Today's solemn feast is very important to our Catholic faith. The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is central to our faith. We pray it every Sunday, or whenever we find ourselves praying the Creed. Belief in the Triune God is part of the foundation of the faith of the early Christians. Many have tried to explain the mystery of a God with three persons, but throughout history, mankind has fallen short in understanding this great mystery. We can never fully comprehend it, at least not in our earthly state. 

The gospel today challenges us to go forth into the world in the name of the Father,  Son, and Holy Spirit. We are commissioned to preach salvation to all through the power of the Holy Spirit, which Christ gave us as promised by the Father.

Let us pray for the gift of wisdom that we may continue to grow in faith and in the love of the Trinity. May we walk in the path of perfection through the imitation of the God-Man, Jesus Christ.

To God - the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be all the glory forever and ever. Amen!

Pentecost is often considered the birth of Christianity. Today, we recall the day when the promise of Jesus to his apostles before he ascended to heaven was fulfilled - the Holy Spirit came down upon them like tongues of fire. 

The event of the coming of the Holy Spirit changed the lives of the apostles. They were no longer afraid to speak about Jesus. They became bold and on fire with zeal and commitment to proclaim the good news to every creature. And this is also what the Holy Spirit does to us - He ignites the flames of our burning heart for the love of God.

Let us pray that we may sustain the fire in our hearts through constant prayer and devotion, obedience to the Church, and our humble imitation of Mary - Mother of the Church.

Jesus' presence continues. Before He ascended into heaven, He commissioned His apostles to "go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to all creation." Thus, the apostles went forth and preached the good news of salvation to all. 

The Church, through the bishops, who are the successors of the apostles, continue the mission that the apostles began. But through baptism, we all share in the mission to proclaim the gospel of Jesus by the powerful witness of our Christian life.

Today, as we celebrate the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, let us pray for the Church, especially for all the missionaries sent to every part of the world to become beacons of hope, faith and love. Let us continue to deepen our faith so that we can live up to our vocation as proclaimers of the gospel.

There was once an old saying that says: You don't need an effort to be able to love but just a small act of will. Anyone can love, which is the movement of the soul that is ingrained in each of us. We were created to love, we were born to love. God is Love, yes - this is the very reason why we are all capable of loving Him in return and our neighbor as ourselves.

If there is one human person close and dear to us that embodies the love that God has for us, it is our mother. Today is Mother's Day, the Sixth Sunday of Easter, and we are still in the festive atmosphere of celebrating the raising of Jesus from the dead.

Let us not forget to greet our mothers and those who "mother" us in one way or another with a Happy Mother's Day! We ask Mary, our heavenly mother to pray for us,  especially for our beloved mothers.

Jesus is the true vine. We Christians, by virtue of our baptism, are the branches. Apart from the vine, the branches wither - dry up and die. Hence, apart from Christ, we, the branches, would not survive.  

The metaphor of the vine and branches in the gospel today, the Fifth Sunday of Easter, includes the process of pruning and bearing fruit. God prunes us of the unnecessary parts of the branch in order to grow further and bear fruit. Our challenge in life must be seen as God's way of trimming our rough edges. Attached to the true vine - Jesus Christ - we can all bear fruit of love, justice, hope, joy, and peace.
