Jesus' presence continues. Before He ascended into heaven, He commissioned His apostles to "go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to all creation." Thus, the apostles went forth and preached the good news of salvation to all.
The Church, through the bishops, who are the successors of the apostles, continue the mission that the apostles began. But through baptism, we all share in the mission to proclaim the gospel of Jesus by the powerful witness of our Christian life.
Today, as we celebrate the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, let us pray for the Church, especially for all the missionaries sent to every part of the world to become beacons of hope, faith and love. Let us continue to deepen our faith so that we can live up to our vocation as proclaimers of the gospel.
