Most of us have experienced once or more than once in our life where we felt that we stood in a cross road. Doubting. Confused. Hopeless. Maybe even disbelieving. Do you remember the feeling? There is a saying during my seminary years that stuck in my mind: "if you are standing in a cross road, just stand still and wait for the light to guide you." I have to go through a crossroad every year ... and indeed, the light guided me, that is why I am here today.
"Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
Over the past four weeks we are reflecting on the person of Jesus. We have focused for three consecutive Sundays on the Eucharistic presence of Jesus. And in the midst of the many gods that the world offers us we continue to choose in serving our God. The early companions of Jesus were confronted with the dilemma of choosing between the world and the Lord. The gospel tells us that some of the disciples left Jesus because they cannot accept everything that Jesus is teaching them regarding the truth. Jesus is asking us today: "do you also wish to go away?" Try to find the answer in the deepest recesses of your heart. What does your heart say? Are you going to walk away from the Lord? How many times that we are asked by Jesus to be a brother or sister to someone in need? Are we going to walk away? How many times that we are asked to give time to serve the Church or help in our parish programs and projects? Are we going to walk away?
May we all find the answer today, in our hearts. May we also say: "where shall we go, Lord?" May we find the courage to say today: "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
Find that courage today.
