How happy are the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Each one of us has surely experienced that some people are somehow special. We come to realize that comparing ourselves to them somewhat belittles us as an individual person endowed with gifts by our Creator. Each is unique and every good thing and attribute we have belongs to God,. When we give back everything that belongs to God, we are blessed!
A person truly poor in spirit is someone who carries within them a deep awareness of their own nothingness and who lives every moment of the day and all their relationships with others in the consciousness of this truth. Jesus is the archetype of this be-attitude and for this the kingdom of heaven belongs to him. This is exactly what we are called for - to be poor in spirit, by which we will possess God's kingdom and everything He promised.
As for my part, I am truly humbled with all the birthday greetings last week and from all of you, my friends and family here at St. Mark, Holy Trinity and St. Mary's. With this, I am gratefully blessed.
