The Lord feeds us at his table of bounty.
Every Sunday, and every Mass that you attend - the Lord feeds you with His Words and His Body and Blood. Can you imagine how the Lord loves us so much that he cares and nourishes us with His own self? What greater love than this?
The gospel story today places a boy with 5 loaves and 2 fish in the center of the narrative. Jesus fed thousands of people from what the boy offered him. The miracle happened with the boy’s generosity. His heart full of love for others became the seedbed of Jesus’ miracle. The simple lesson of the gospel is that whatever we give to God out of our generous heart can turn into a blessing for others. There are so many ways to help other people in need. I know some people who take a portion of their income for charity work while others regularly check their pantry for canned goods or food to give to shelters or donation center. And others support institutions that take care of the destitute and the poor while others give their time to listen to a friend who is troubled with problems. That is feeding the soul. In our parish, I know that there are many ways too that we can be an instrument to help other people. We will have different ministries that will constantly in need of volunteers. We will have projects that we need financial support. And we have each other's soul that we can feed with our prayers and simple act of charity - may it be a smile or encouraging words. All of these, if we offer to Christ can become a blessing for others.
I invite you today (and every day) to become a blessing to others. It starts here and now.
