We are now back to Ordinary Time in our liturgical calendar, and today's readings and gospel are very appropriate. Throughout the bible, writers have used the metaphorical symbols of trees, plants and seeds to refer to the kingdom of God.
In the gospel, Jesus uses the same symbolism to encourage His followers to work to grow the kingdom of God on earth. In this Eleventh Sunday of Ordinary Time, let us heed Jesus' call to labor for the kingdom of God.
St. Francis of Assisi tells us that the best way to preach the gospel is with actions than with words. We then let God's grace work to grow the seed so that it flourishes and bears much fruit.
Let us pray for ourselves and others to have courage, perseverance and dedication to live our vocation as preachers of the good news!
