Today is the solemn feast of the Precious Body and Blood or better known as the feast of Corpus Christi. Not only does this feast help us recall the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross, but it also gives us the opportunity to reflect on the threefold character of this feast. Firstly, Corpus Christi is a sacrament of promise. Jesus promised that He will be with us forever. Secondly, Corpus Christi is a sacrament of presence. Jesus is present with us all of the time, but most especially in the Eucharist, and thirdly, Corpus Christi is a sacrament of perfection. Jesus offered His Body and Blood as a spiritual food that transforms us into becoming more like Him.
If it is true that "we become what we eat," then our holy communion with the Body and Blood of Jesus truly transforms our inner being into His likeness. Let us, in all humility, make ourselves worthy of this immense gift. May we become one with our Lord in everything we do so that His kingdom here on earth may continue to flourish until we see Him in the glorious feast of heaven.
