Like Bartimaeus, there are times when we want to give up, but also like Bartimaeus, we must shout even louder and persevere in praying. Let us believe that God hears our prayers and that He will reward us with an even deeper and stronger faith in the power of His love.
The gospel today - the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time - tells us the story of Bartimaeus, a blind man. He has every reason to be depressed and miserable, but he had heard about Jesus' healing, and began to believe that Jesus was the Messiah. His voice could have easily gotten lost in the crowd, but he persisted and shouted even louder to Jesus. Jesus heard him and restored his sight, and Bartimaeus became a follower.
