Today's gospel brings us to the fundamental question - which is the greatest of the commandments. We need to remember that Mosaic law contained hundreds of commandments, and every devout Jew, including Jesus, practiced complete adherence to the law.
Jesus connected the love of God and love of neighbor as the greatest commandment. In simple words, our love for God finds expression in our love for our neighbor.
Let us take up the challenge on this 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time to find meaning in our love for God by truly loving those around us with the kind of love that Jesus taught us, which is a love that is liberating, healing, generous, and above all, a love that doesn't expect anything in return.
